Kanara College Society (Regd), Kumta, established in the year 1949, pioneering Education Society in the field of higher Education in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka States justifiably takes pride in having started a Polytechnic in the year 1985. Indeed, it is a new and glittering feather in its already bedecked cap with an Arts and Science College, a Commerce College and a college of Education. All these Colleges are first of their kind in the district. Realizing the crucial importance of Technical Education today, the society decided to establish a Polytechnic, in its spacious campus in a beautiful and ideal surroundings.

In the history of the esteemed Kanara College Society, Kumta, the year 1985 masks prominently, as this Polytechnic was founded with three branches of Engineering viz, Mechanical, Civil and Electronic/Telecommunication Engineerinnng. The holy blessings of Shree Vidyadhiraj Teertha Swamiji of Shree Gokarna Parthagali Matt, favored the institution for an allround development with the building up of the infrastructure needed time to time. However, the management added two more branches viz Computer Science & Engineering and Automobile Engineering, in the year 1987 and 1992 respectively. The present intake to date are as follows :

The Institute is located in Kumta town, well connected to the neighboring town and Districts by N.H.-17. The Konkan Railway links Kumta with major cities like Mangalore and Mumbai with its Railway Station situated very near to the Polytechnic. In the course of its existence, the Polytechnic has developed into a fine Institution providing facilities for training in various Technical Fields. It is fully equipped with all facilities and amenities. It has adequate staff and well furnished and equipped Laboratories/Workshops. Ample opportunities are provided to the students for curricular and co-curricular activities.

The institution is considered under Salary Grant-in-Aid from 24-11-2006 by Government of Karnataka for the following branches.
